SLAM Basketball offers a positive basketball program to children ages 6 to 18 years old, in the St. Margaret's Bay, Tantallon, Timberlea and Hammonds Plains area. SLAM is a volunteer, not for profit organization which began in 1999 with 96 players. We now entertain approximately 500 players annually.
Boys and Girls aged 5, 6 and 7 years old, participate in the Jr. NBA Division program. The program runs for 12 weeks, starting in mid November. More information here
Organized League Play
Children age 8 to 18, play in an organized team basketball program. Each team practices once a week and play a Metro Basketball league game on the weekend. Team selection is determined with player evaluations (see Player Evaluations) beginning in September and team practices starting in October. The Metro Basketball Association league games begin late October.
Practice Days and Times
**Club practice days and times are determined by coach and gym availability; this is allocated after evaluations have taken place and once teams are formed**
Note - Division 1 and 2 ("competitive") teams practice twice a week.
Players selected to competitive teams, will be charged by SLAM for additional gym time - this is in addition to the initial registration fee is an average fee of $50 annually although this amount varies from year to year and is determined by our overall annual facility rental fees. This additional fee is specifically applied in order to offset the costs associated with the additional practice time not included in the initial fee.
If / as gym time is available, other teams may also elect to request an additional practice; this is typically offered if the majority of players agree to the additional practice time and the fee associated with that.
Exhibition games and tournaments are at the expense of each individual team
Game days and times
Organized league games are played on Saturdays and Sundays. Dates and times are determined by the MBA (Metro Basketball Association- see www.mbans.ca -> "dates of play"

Teams may also participate in exhibition games and tournaments throughout the season; this would be at the team's expense.
Exhibition games: teams generally pay for the gym time, referees, scorekeepers and any associated travel or lodging associated with the exhibition game
Tournaments: teams pay the tournament entrance fee and any associated travel or lodging associated with the tournament
